Denise Cox, Director of Curriculum & Federal Programs

Denise Cox has been a Douglas Unified Schools employee for about 18 years.  Her time in Douglas includes experience as an instructional assistant, a teacher in grades K-3, an instructional coach, a principal, and now as the Director of Curriculum.  Born and raised in Douglas, Mrs. Cox is a 1990 graduate of DHS.  She has two children who have attended DUSD, one of which graduated in 2007 and the other is currently an 8th grade student.  Mrs. Cox completed her studies at Cochise College, University of Arizona South, Arizona State University, and University of Phoenix.









Our Philosophy

Our goal is to provide students of all ages with the opportunity to learn and grow in a rich and developmentally appropriate environment. Our highly qualified teachers provide hands-on, interactive learning activities based on the Arizona State Standards that challenge students’ imaginations and encourage essential skills for success in both school and life. Every effort is made to integrate the content areas of English, mathematics, science, social studies, and technology in such a way students understand the interconnectedness of these disciplines and gain insight into the way the real world works.

Chaelyn Fredrickson, Secondary Curriculum Coordinator
Before joining Curriculum and Federal Programs, Chaelyn taught for twelve years at DHS in the English department: all four levels of  English, Pre-AP English, and ELD English. A California transplant, Chaelyn graduated from the University of Arizona in 2000 and received her Masters’ Degree in 2006 from same institution. She lives for her two children, Thomas and Emmalee, who have attended schools in Douglas and flourished. Chaelyn’ s  job responsibilities will include providing curricular leadership across subject areas under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Federal Programs.  Position objectives include: 1) studying, evaluating and implementing innovative techniques and methods; 2) providing leadership in the development, articulation and implementation of exemplary curricular program and assessment and 3) assisting in the coordination of a positive staff development program. Chaelyn will be working closely with Teresa Gallardo, Kari Acosta, fellow CFP coaches,  school improvement specialists, our fine DUSD teachers, and administrators in order to effectively, painlessly implement Common Core standards into our pacing guides and our classrooms in DUSD 27.

Before joining Curriculum and Federal Programs, Teresa taught six years at DHS in the math department: Freshmen Algebra, Algebra 100, Plato Math, Geometry, and Business Math.  Prior to teaching she worked nearly 20 years in the finance departments at maquiladora plants in Agua Prieta and Nogales, Son. including Velcro, USA; Zenith; Allied Signal aka Breed Technologies; and Prestolite.  She is a graduate of Douglas High School, Cochise College and the University of Arizona - twice.  After graduating from Cochise she left Douglas, but returned in 1995 so her twins could grow up in a small town and be close to their grandparents.  The twins, Sean and Catherine, graduated from DHS in 2011.
